Botox Injection Treatments
Spinal Orthopaedic Treatment Clinic
Botox injection treatments have been used for many years in treatments of abnormalities of spasticity and
cervical dystonia/tarticollis, spinal cord injuries, stroke, head injuries and
neuromuscular disease such as cerebral palsy and others. In the recent years Botox injection treatments have been found to help other conditions such as chronic myofascial pain as well as cervicogenic headaches and migraines of cervical origin. There are two types of Botox Injection - Botulinum toxin A and Botulinum toxin B, also known as Myobloc. Botox injection is a sterile liquid formulation of purified protein complex from bacterial cultures that are primarily used intramuscularly. Botox Injection complex is retrieved from fermentation of clostridium botulinum and purified through a preparation and chromatography steps. Botox Injection is known to inhibit the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, causing chemodenervation and paralyzing injected muscles with minimal spreading to non injected sites. Intermuscular injection of Botox Injection complex reduces muscle hyperactivity and has been effectively used to treat a number of disorders
including spasms, myofascial pain cervical dystonia/torticollis, tension type
headaches and migraines of cervical origin. Botox injection is directed to specific muscles that cause the known disorder and usually will start working within four to fourteen days on average. Patients may need two to three Botox injection treatments in a year and some may need fewer injections by breaking the pain/spasm/pain cycles. Majority of the insurance companies pay for Botox Injection treatments. There are very few side effects to Botox injection Treatments which include dry mouth or flu-like symptoms that end up dissipating within one to two weeks.
