Therapeutic Exercise Treatments
Spinal & Orthopaedic Medicine
Therapeutic exercise begins with the evaluation of the neuromusculoskeletal system to identity the presence of postural balance versus imbalance. Imbalance is dictated by maladaptive movement patterns that are neurologically driven and cause certain muscle groups to become tightened and short while other muscle groups become loose and weak. This phenomenon occurs between agonist/antagonist muscle groups throughout the body. These patterns of muscle imbalance occur within local and distal muscles groups and are maintained by altered biomechanics of the spine as well as restriction of the muscle and joints of the extremities. The altered spinal and soft tissue biomechanics result in restriction of movement and contribute to chronic adverse neural tension as well as pain. The sequence for development of a normal vertebral spinal mechanics as well as joint mobilization in the extremities restoring normal joint play utilizing established manual medicine techniques as well as physical therapy stabilization techniques. The long term restoration and maintenance of proper muscle balance involves muscle stretching, self stretching and neuromotor retraining exercises along with proper aerobic conditioning. Specific therapeutic exercises will be either referred out to the physical therapy facility and/or by the physicians.
